How are you all? I hope everyone enjoyed the fab weather over the weekend.
Just a reminder that the SCP will be finishing for the summer on the 12th of June. That means no more zoom groups with me from next Friday onward.

This is a simple mindful activity that I think everyone enjoys:
Mindfully eat a piece of chocolate.
Take a piece of chocolate and mindfully eat it. First feel it rest in the palm of your hand, then smell it, then place it in your mouth and let it sit on your tongue, and savour it. Try not to bite it. Just let it melt on your tongue slowly. What does it taste like? How does your mouth feel?
Savour its texture, its taste, how it feels in your mouth. Let it linger and then swallow it. After you have swallowed it, let your lips turn up slightly and smile.
This exercise makes chocolate taste so much nicer. Try this the next time you’re having some chocolate.

How did everyone get on trying to stick to a routine? Remember it is important to get out into the fresh air and get exercise everyday too. Below is a new website created by the government to promote the importance of play. There is loads of ideas and resources. Its definitely worth a look

Remember that it is really important to stick to a routine each day even if you try it for the week days only. Likewise it is important to get fresh air and exercise. If you do these three things you will get a better night sleep which makes our brain and body stronger which in turn stops us from getting sick . You will feel happier and get more things done trough out the day. These are the thing we really need to focus on while the restrictions are in place. You can make up your own routine/timetable or you can follow the one that is on the homepage for this website. Just make sure to fit in a slot each day for fresh air and exercise.

The idea of SCP is to support students in whatever way we can to help them get the most from their education. Given the current situation a lot of families are trying to get use to the current restrictions and it’s a big change for both parents and children. If you find that you might need a bit of advice or support around computers, school work, resources or just some general information please contact us. We will try our best to help you or put you in contact with someone that can help you.

Below are some activities that we have done in The Nest that went down a treat:
All you need is two ingredients
¼ cup of baby oil
2 cups of flour
Mix together and you have cloud dough! It looks like flour, but it holds its shape when pressed.
It should look like this.
If you don’t have baby oil you can use vegetable oil. It might not smell as nice as baby oil but if you have scented oils at home you could put one or two drops in. Also you can add some food colour too but be careful. Only use one or two drops. Too much food colour can change the consistency of the dough and it will start to crumple. If this happens add a drop of oil.
This is a great activity if you like messy play.
This is a great game and tends to bring out a bit of competiveness in some of us 😀
All you need is a tray and some random objects like below.
- Place the tray with the objects on it in front of the players for 1 minute you can increase or decrease the time depending on age of the children playing. During the 1 minute the children need to try to remember all the objects on the tray.
- Once the time is up get the children to close their eyes and remove one of the objects from the tray. The children have to guess which object was removed. You can remove more than one object if you want to make the game harder.
- The person who guessed correctly gets to be in charge and remove the next object and so on.
- You can make the game easier or more difficult depending on the number of objects on the tray.
One of my favourite things to do is to go for a walk in the evenings a lot of you will notice or think that there is more wildlife around as a result of the current restrictions. Apparently that’s not the case it’s just because the noise level (traffic and planes) around us has decreased. Therefore, we can hear birds sing more clearly. Which is lovely. If you have thought there is more birds or wildlife about this means that you are being mindful to your surroundings. Imagine, you are practicing mindfulness without realising. Well done! When you are out and about for your walks try to get some pictures of some wildlife this can be animals, plants, fish or tadpoles you will be surprised what you will find when you start looking. Just be careful and make sure you have an adult with you. Most of us will be able to find some kind of wildlife in our back garden.
